Personalised Eye Exams
Getting to know you:
The eye exam begins with a comprehensive history-taking session, allowing us to better understand your personal and medical background. This is a crucial part of the appointment, as it helps us tailor the exam to your specific needs.
Refraction:
Next, we assess your prescription using a variety of techniques, including reading letters from an eye chart and answering related questions. To ensure the most precise results, we employ traditional refraction methods with a trial frame and lenses, which offer a more natural and accurate outcome.
Comprehensive Eye Health Check:
Our eye examinations go beyond determining your prescription. We carry out a thorough assessment of your overall eye health, examining the anterior (front) structures of the eye through to the retina.
Any abnormalities identified are clearly explained, and where necessary, appropriate referrals to secondary care are arranged.
Contact Lens Fittings + Aftercares
We provide comprehensive contact lens fittings, with trial lenses ordered to your individual prescription. Our experienced optometrists will recommend the most suitable contact lenses based on your visual requirements and lifestyle needs.
We offer a wide range of options, including daily disposable contact lenses (with designs for astigmatism), monthly replacement lenses, and rigid gas permeable lenses.
Please note that a valid, up-to-date eye examination prescription is required in order to supply contact lenses.
Children and Myopia (Short-Sightness)
Myopia is a common condition where distance vision is blurred while near vision remains clear.
It often develops in childhood and can worsen over time affecting around 1 in 3 people in the UK
. As myopia increases, so does the risk of future eye health problems — making early care especially important.
More children are developing myopia at a younger age than ever before
Myopia can progress as children grow, especially during school years
Higher levels of myopia may increase the risk of eye health issues later in life
Early myopia management can help slow progression and support healthier vision for the future

At Blackhams our aim is for all children to see their best and optometrists are certified to fit specialist contact lenses help slow down the progression of myopia.
These specialist lenses are known as MiSight and they help to provide myopia control/management to help reduce a child's progression of myopia.
Give us a call and book your child in for an eye examination to discuss options.
